Phenonium of Interest (POI): Topic Proposal
POI: The African American male’s perspective in mental health among healthcare providers: Integrated but still isolated and separated.
Many of our African American male experience feelings of isolation, separation and the difference in treatment among their population. The healthcare system is supposed to be accepting, non-bias, nonjudgement with an integrated approach regardless of race, creed, color or sexual preference. The barriers and discrimination continue to exist when providing treatment among the mentally ill.
Literature Search: The three (3) database literature searches used was Marx Library from University of South Alabama, Google Scholar and PubMed.
There were (11) American Journals and (28) Articles and (7) Scholarly Articles found on this topic. Most articles found were on discrimination and racism among the mentally ill but nothing on their perspective feeling on they are treated different such as: feeling alone, separated or isolated.
