SOAP Notes for Bites and Stings
WEEK 10: Medical Emergencies
Lesson 1: Medical Emergencies
Assignment 10.1: SOAP Notes for Bites and Stings
Introduction
By the end of this assignment, you will be able to:
• Demonstrate advanced skills in physical assessment, pharmacology, and therapeutic nursing interventions in the care of various office emergencies. (CO7)
• Use SOAP notes to record patient observations, assessments, and plans. (CO1, CO2, CO8)
Before you begin, please review what should be included in each component of your SOAP note.
Assignment Guidelines
Using Chapters 24 and 41 from your Primary care: Interprofessional collaborative practice textbook, develop two SOAP notes: one for a 12-year-old boy who presents with a bite (may be human or animal; you decide) and another 12-year-old boy who presents with an insect sting. The boys discovered the bite/sting this morning. The skin seems to be getting worse. The boys’ mothers are worried it might be something terrible.
In your SOAP notes, be sure to address questions that you would ask and how you would diagnose and treat the children.
