Step 1: Case Study, Model, and Key topic
The case study that was selected for this paper describes a hypothetical case where Mercer Medical Center, a 450 bed community hospital, must implement a new physician order entry (POE) within nine months instead of the original two years in order to compete with other businesses and improve publicity. Two years ago, Mercer Medical Center had attempted to implement a new nursing documentation system but it had failed after two days. This was largely due to the lack of buy in from the medical staff. They felt unheard and that they were just making money for the executives rather than having their workflow improved. Mercer Medical Center also has a lawsuit that they are currently handling due to a physician order error related to the incompatibly between the emergency department (ED) system and the intensive care unit (ICU) system. The patent was given the wrong medication over two hours and it resulted in a brain injury (Lorenzi, et al., 2005).
The case study also describes how the medical director of information services (MDIS), Kathryn Reed, and the chief information officer (CIO), Barry Marks, would work together to build a transparent, respectful, and trustworthy relationship amongst the medical staff to help improve the implementation of the POE. Ms. Reed was able to get funding to hire six people who are in support of the POE and she was able to create a twelve member physician computing council that would help combat the resistance to change that would naturally occur. They would act as support and champions for the POE for the other medical staff at Mercer Medical Center. Ms. Reed knows the importance of managing change and analyzing the components that come with it. She realizes nine months is too soon to fully and successfully implement the system and feels that all the work she has done to build the relationships will be all for nothing and her credibility will be hindered (Lorenzi, et al., 2005).

In 2–3 pages:
• Summarize your three research findings on HIT implementations similar to the case you selected. Include the models, evaluation methods, findings, and plans for reevaluation in each article.
• Critique the HIT implementations in your research: Identify successful and unsuccessful elements of the implementations. Explain the reasons for the successful elements. Identify areas for improvement and explain why (or how) they could be improved.
• Create an evaluation goal and identify the viewpoint related to the goal that will guide your own evaluation plan. Provide your rationale for choosing that goal and viewpoint.
Step 3: Literature Review
Locate a minimum of six full-text research articles to use in your literature review.
Read through the articles carefully. Eliminate studies that are not appropriate and add others to your list, as needed. Although you may include more, you are expected to include a minimum of six appropriate articles.
Write a 3- to 4-page literature review that includes the following:
• Synthesize the findings in the literature as they relate to the case you selected and goals you developed in Step 2.
• Explain the original conclusions that you derived from the evidence you gathered.
• Support your synthesis and conclusions using evidence from the literature.
Step 4: Evaluation Methodology
In 2–3 pages, describe the evaluation methodology plan you would use to evaluate your case study. Be sure to address the following:
• Specify which research design, information sources, and data collection methods you would use.
• Identify the types of analyses you would perform on the gathered data. Justify your selections.
• Provide a list of the stakeholders in your selected case study.
• Write a paragraph describing the key components of your evaluation—the “who,” “what,” “when,” “where,” and “how” of your evaluation.
• Explain how you would measure success in your evaluation. Be specific.
• Explain how you would summarize your results. Be specific.
Step 5: Tools for Evaluation
Locate two full-text research articles to add to your evaluation plan project. Select articles that focus on survey tools that you can apply to your own evaluation plan project.
In 2–3 pages, describe the evaluation tool that you selected for your evaluation plan project. Provide a rationale for your selection. Develop a plan for utilizing the tool for your evaluation methodology plan.
Step 6: Cost Analysis
In 2–3 pages:
• Choose one of the five main types of analysis Herasevich lists as appropriate for HIT and describe how you might use it to perform an analysis of a financial aspect of your chosen case.
• Describe the key elements you would include in your analysis.
• Justify your choice and provide a brief explanation of the alternative types of analysis. Explain why each would not be useful to analyze the financial aspect of your chosen case.
Step 7: Reflection
Write a 1-page reflection that includes:
• A summary of the criteria you will use to define the success of your plan
• An analysis of the process of creating an evaluation plan. Some things to reflect on include: the steps that may present challenges and how to address them, what went well and why, and ways to improve future evaluations.
