Turabian Style Papers

A Turabian style paper is an academic paper written using a format that was proposed by Kate Turabian. This format is unique especially when preparing academic papers such as term papers assignments and reports.

A Turabian style paper includes page number in all pages but unlike other writing styles, the Turabian style paper has the page numbers being inserted at the bottom centre of the first page but subsequent pages have numbers in the top right hand corner. This form of numbering is unique to Turabian style papers only.

The information or text that makes up the Turabian style paper is usually double spaced between subsequent sentences. The Turabian style requires that the writer uses a margin of one inch on each border of a page. This ensures that the normal Turabian styled paper has a minimum of two hundred and seventy five hundred words.

The Turabian styled paper encourages the use of direct quotations form different authors which are properly quoted and cited in the Turabian style paper and at the end of the text. These quotations are inserted in a block format leaving an allowance of one blank line before an after the quote. The block format is only applicable in Turabian styled papers which have quotes exceeding forty words. Lack of proper quotation and citation of literary work borrowed from other people is categorized as a criminal offence with a severe fine attached to it.  Therefore, when writing a Turabian style paper the writer should ensure that they give credit to the origin of the extra information. Consequently, only references which are indicated in the text are put in the works cited page such that a writer cannot include more references than those which have been quoted in the text of a Turabian style paper.

Footnotes are characteristic of Turabian styled papers such that each page is never complete unless the writer includes relevant footnotes. The footnotes of a Turabian styled paper are written down in Arabic numerals below the normal page and the numerals should be sequenced as they appear in the body of a Turabian styled paper. When numbering the footnotes, the superscript option should not be used in formatting a Turabian style paper. Similarly, the right hand justification option is not used to align the text.

Turabian style papers do not incorporate numerals in the text such that numbers up to one hundred are written in words but those more than a hundred are written in numerals. However, Turabian style papers allow use on numerals for other presentations of numbers such as percentages as well as those involving decimals.

Turabian style papers usually include a title page on which the students personal details are included and it is often no counted as part of the requested number of pages. All text present in the title page of a Turabian style paper should be aligned as the centre of the page while the upper case should be used in writing all the letters.

The other unique characteristic of Turabian style papers is that they the paragraphs in the body of the Turabian style paper are indented. This indentation distinguishes the paragraph from other normal sentences hence this makes identification of main points in Turabian style papers easier.
